Series: A Fresh Vision for a New Year
A Vision for Our Nation

1 Timothy 2:1–6 (HCSB)

1 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, 6 who gave Himself—a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.

Observations

  • God’s plan chooses prayer power over political
  • Praying for those in authority is not an option.
  • Prayer changes circumstances and men.

  1. I ENVISION A NATION CHARACTERIZED BY PEACE

v 2   … so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

  • We are called more to be a proclaiming body than a protesting body.
  • The goal is to have peace, not power.
  • Peacefulness comes as a result of God’s sovereign movement on a nation.

How to Have Personal Peace
P Present yourself completely to Him.
E Examine your motives before Him.
A Accept all your directions from Him.
C Choose continually to obey Him.
E Experience the joy of walking with Him.

  1. I ENVISION A NATION CHANGED BY THE POWER OF CHRIST

vv 3-6 3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, 6 who gave Himself—a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.

The Present Need in Our Nation:

  • Abortion continues to be a national tragedy.
  • The New Age movement is the fastest growing religion in our nation.
  • Radical Islamic jihadists are becoming a threat on our own soil.
  • Practicing homosexuals are now a protected minority.
  • Christianity is closer than ever to becoming an unprotected minority.

God’s Provision for Our Nation’s Need of Salvation:

  • God is pleased when people are saved.
  • God’s desire is that all be saved.
  • God made the ultimate provision with His Son.
  • God can change our nation one soul at a time.
