Series: Stewardship – Obedience to God’s Plan
You Can’t Outgive God

Luke 6:38 (HCSB)

38 “Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure – pressed down, shaken together, and running over – will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

  1. THE ONLY LIMIT OF GOD’S BLESSING IS OUR WILLINGNESS TO GIVE.

v 38a “Give, and it will be given to you…”

  • God wants to bless us.

Psalm 67:6–7 (HCSB)

6 The earth has produced its harvest; God, our God, blesses us. 7 God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear Him.

  • God wants us to participate in this blessing.
  • When we give, God chooses to give in return.

  1. GOD’S BLESSING IS GREATER THAN WE CAN IMAGINE.

v 38b “…a good measure – pressed down, shaken together, and running over – will be poured into your lap.”

  • A good measure
  • Pressed down
  • Shaken together
  • Running over
  • Poured into your lap

  1. WE GET TO CHOOSE THE MEASURING CUP GOD USES TO BLESS US.

v 38c “For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Proverbs 11:24 (HCSB)

24 One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor.

Galatians 6:7 (HCSB)

7 Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap…

2 Corinthians 9:6–8 (HCSB)

6 Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each person should do as he has decided in his heart – not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.

  • What God chooses to give to us is only limited by our own giving.

Mark 4:24 (HCSB)

24 Then He said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. By the measure you use, it will be measured and added to you.”

  • When we refuse to give, God throttles His giving to us.
  • You can never out give God!

The principle of sowing and reaping comes alive relative to our willingness to give. God self-limits His giving to us by matching and exceeding the measurement we use to give to Him.
