Series: Stewardship – Obedience to God’s Plan
You Can’t Outgive God
Luke 6:38 (HCSB)
38 “Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure – pressed down, shaken together, and running over – will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”
- THE ONLY LIMIT OF GOD’S BLESSING IS OUR WILLINGNESS TO GIVE.
v 38a “Give, and it will be given to you…”
- God wants to bless us.
Psalm 67:6–7 (HCSB)
6 The earth has produced its harvest; God, our God, blesses us. 7 God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear Him.
- God wants us to participate in this blessing.
- When we give, God chooses to give in return.
- GOD’S BLESSING IS GREATER THAN WE CAN IMAGINE.
v 38b “…a good measure – pressed down, shaken together, and running over – will be poured into your lap.”
- A good measure
- Pressed down
- Shaken together
- Running over
- Poured into your lap
- WE GET TO CHOOSE THE MEASURING CUP GOD USES TO BLESS US.
v 38c “For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Proverbs 11:24 (HCSB)
24 One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor.
Galatians 6:7 (HCSB)
7 Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap…
2 Corinthians 9:6–8 (HCSB)
6 Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each person should do as he has decided in his heart – not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.
- What God chooses to give to us is only limited by our own giving.
Mark 4:24 (HCSB)
24 Then He said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. By the measure you use, it will be measured and added to you.”
- When we refuse to give, God throttles His giving to us.
- You can never out give God!
The principle of sowing and reaping comes alive relative to our willingness to give. God self-limits His giving to us by matching and exceeding the measurement we use to give to Him.
