Series: It’s Your Serve
A Full Service Life

Joshua 22:1–5 (HCSB)
1 Joshua summoned the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh 2 and told them, “You have done everything Moses the LORD’s servant commanded you and have obeyed me in everything I commanded you. 3 You have not deserted your brothers even once this whole time but have carried out the requirement of the command of the LORD your God. 4 Now that He has given your brothers rest, just as He promised them, return to your homes in your own land that Moses the LORD’s servant gave you across the Jordan. 5 Only carefully obey the command and instruction that Moses the LORD’s servant gave you: to love the LORD your God, walk in all His ways, keep His commands, remain faithful to Him, and serve Him with all your heart and all your soul.”

1. SERVING THE LORD CENTERS AROUND OBEDIENCE

vv 2-3 …and told them, “You have done everything Moses the LORD’s servant commanded you and have obeyed me in everything I commanded you. You have not deserted your brothers even once this whole time but have carried out the requirement of the command of the LORD your God.”

• Serving God begins by hearing from God.
• Our service to God is about obedience.
• Understand the importance of the team.

2. SERVING GOD ACTIVATES HIS PROMISES

v 4 Now that He has given your brothers rest, just as He promised them, return to your homes in your own land that Moses the LORD’s servant gave you across the Jordan.

• When we serve the Lord we can find our rest in Him.

Matthew 11:28–30 (HCSB)
28 “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

• God fulfills His promises to His faithful servants.

The story of Caleb and God’s promise

3. THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE

v 5 “Only carefully obey the command and instruction that Moses the LORD’s servant gave you: to love the LORD your God, walk in all His ways, keep His commands, remain faithful to Him, and serve Him with all your heart and all your soul.”

• We serve Him the best when we love Him the most.
• We serve Him more completely by imitating Him.
• We serve Him more diligently with obedience.
• We serve Him the longest with our faithfulness.
• We serve Him and Him alone with all our heart and soul.

When we serve the Lord, there must be a level of commitment that takes us to a deeper place of love for Him. Our service is met by His promises and we become His vessels to change the world.
