Backyard Contest
The Backyard Series is designed for amateur or enthusiast teams who want to compete in a more relaxed format. Teams will cook chicken and pork ribs only, with fewer requirements and a friendlier pace, making it perfect for new competitors, community cooks, or those looking to experience the competition world without the full pressure of the Master Series.
Judging still follows the same rules and guidelines, but with a more approachable entry point for all skill levels.
Master Series Competition
The Master Series is for professional and experienced competition BBQ teams. This division follows the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) rules and requires teams to cook four meats: chicken, pork ribs, pork shoulder (also known as Boston butt), and beef brisket.
It’s the ultimate test of skill, consistency, and timing — ideal for seasoned pitmasters ready to compete at the highest level.
Showcase/Wildcard
The Showcase Category is our wildcard ancillary division, designed to let your creativity shine! Unlike traditional BBQ categories, Showcase entries can be any meat other than the 4 Master Series meats already used, and can include any specialty item — from tri-tip and tacos to smoked desserts and signature sides . However, the meat MUST be the star of the presentation and all elements of the dish must be cooked on-site.
This category is perfect for teams who want to show off a unique skill, regional flavor, or crowd-pleasing creation that doesn’t fit the standard BBQ mold.
Entries will be judged based on Taste, Execution, and Appearance, with an emphasis on bold flavor, creativity, and presentation. For complete rules and guidelines, see the competitor packet.
